A leading Finnish grocery retailer

Suomen Lähikauppa was acquired by Triton Fund III in February 2013

Suomen Lähikauppa is a leading Finnish grocery retailer, operating around 660 stores across Finland under the Siwa and Valintatalo brands. The Company focuses on the neighbourhood store segment, with the largest share of stores under 400 m2. Suomen Lähikauppa holds an approximate 30% market share in the neighbourhood store segment and roughly 7% in the total grocery market in Finland.

The Company was established in 2005 when IK Investment Partners backed the merger between Tradeka Corporation's and Wihuri Group's daily goods retail businesses. Following several years of unsatisfactory performance, Triton acquired Suomen Lähikauppa in February 2013. Triton viewed the company as underperforming and under-invested, but saw potential for a retail turnaround situation from the beginning. Shortly after the acquisition, a comprehensive turnaround plan was put in place and is being executed.
