OEC is a leading global supplier of carbon black

Orion Engineered Carbons was acquired by Triton Fund III in July 2011

Orion Engineered Carbons (OEC) is a leading global supplier of carbon black. The Company offers standard and high-performance products for Coatings, Printing Inks, Polymers, Rubber and other applications. Its high-quality Gas Blacks, Furnace Blacks and Specialty Carbon Blacks tint, colorize and enhance the performance of plastics, paints and coatings, inks and toners, adhesives and sealants, tires, and manufactured rubber goods such as automotive belts and hoses.

As the largest global producer of pigment black and the third largest producer of rubber black, OEC is a long-term supplier to many blue-chip companies in a wide range of industries. It has customers across 80 countries. Headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, OEC operates 15 production plants located in Europe, North America, South Korea, South Africa and Brazil.

Triton began monitoring OEC in 2009 as a possible disposal by its German parent company Evonik Industries, where it was a non-core asset in need of investment. OEC held a strong market-leading position and a product portfolio covering a wide array of end-markets and product applications. The company also showed significant potential for operational improvement. Triton teamed up with another bidder, Rhône Capital, to invest.

On 25 July 2014, the Company was listed on the NYSE under the symbol "OEC". Triton sold its remaining shares in OEC on 5 December 2017.
